Drone Photography
Drone photography opens up a completely different way of seeing New Zealand. From above, familiar places can take on a new shape, pattern and sense of scale. Coastlines, rivers, farmland, forests, beaches and town landscapes all reveal details that are often impossible to appreciate from ground level.
Through Glen McMillan Photography, drone photography allows me to capture views that may not always be physically accessible from a wheelchair. It gives me the ability to explore landscapes visually, document places from above and share a wider perspective of Northland and New Zealand’s natural beauty.
A New Perspective From The Air
One of the most exciting parts of drone photography is the ability to look at the world differently. A beach becomes a sweeping line of colour. A river becomes a winding pathway through the land. A forest becomes a textured pattern of green. From the air, everyday places can become striking works of natural art.
This aerial viewpoint complements my ground-based photography. As a wheelchair user, I already photograph from a seated position, creating a different perspective from many traditional photographers. Drone photography adds another layer by allowing me to capture the wider landscape from above.
Northland From Above
Northland is an incredible region for aerial photography. Its coastline, harbours, beaches, farmland, forests and rolling hills provide endless visual interest. From Whangārei and the Tutukaka Coast to rural landscapes and quiet natural spaces, drone photography helps showcase the beauty and variety of the region.
Aerial images can be especially powerful for showing how land, water, wildlife habitats and communities connect. They are useful not only as art, but also as visual storytelling, educational content and environmental awareness resources.
Creative And Educational Uses
Drone photography can be used in many ways. It can create beautiful wall art, website images, social media content, educational resources and visual records of local places. Aerial photographs can also help people understand geography, conservation, land use, accessibility and environmental change.
As this website grows, drone images may become part of wider learning resources across my network, including nature education, accessibility awareness and New Zealand landscape collections.
Respecting People, Wildlife And Places
Responsible drone photography is important. Drones should be used with care, respect and awareness of people, wildlife, property, weather conditions and local rules. The goal is always to capture strong images without disturbing others or damaging the natural environment.
When used thoughtfully, drone photography can help people appreciate places from a fresh point of view while still respecting the land, communities and wildlife being photographed.
A Growing Aerial Collection
This drone photography collection will continue to grow as new images are added. From coastlines and waterways to landscapes, landmarks, parks and natural areas, each photograph offers a wider view of New Zealand’s beauty.
I invite you to explore the collection and enjoy seeing Northland and New Zealand from above, through a lens that opens up places, patterns and perspectives in a new way.
